If you’re becoming increasingly frustrated with the decline in engagement and reach of your organic content, boosting posts is here to give your posts the (literal) boost they need to reach your target audience.

Essentially, you will be paying Facebook to show a specific post to the audience you choose. All you need to get started is a Facebook business page! Importantly, you cannot boost or promote a post on a personal Facebook account, it must be a Business Page, this is just one of the many reasons we recommend having a Page for your business rather than using a personal account.

In this blog post, we’ll run over the basics of boosting, and by the end you’ll be ready to get your content seen by those who matter.

A quick note on your audience:

Have a clear idea of who your target audience is. There will be four main audience variables for you to decide on when boosting a post: age, sex, location, and interests. You can boost your posts to your page followers or create a custom audience such as past website visitors (if you have the Facebook Pixel installed) or a list of email addresses and phone numbers. So, it goes without saying that to have a successful promotion, you need to really know your audience to target them correctly.

Choose or create a post to boost

When you’re creating a new post, there’s an option to boost right from the time it’s published. If you’re loving an existing piece of content already published on your Business page, you can boost that too using the ‘boost’ button which appears underneath any post that is live on your page.

Define your audience

This is where having a clear understanding of who you want to target is important. There are several options when boosting that allow you to target different people. If you know who you want to reach, it will be simple to input the information you already have on hand here to reach those you want to.

Set your budget and duration

Your audience is now set, so it’s time to choose your budget and duration. This tool is pretty nifty, it will give you an indication of how many people your post will reach per day. Click the dropdown menu to show different budget options and reach.

Choosing a duration is also important. Default durations are included, however, you can set a custom date too, to suit your needs.

Facebook suggests running your boosted post for a week or less for best performance, so keep that in mind when choosing your duration.

Review your post

Take your time here – make sure the image you’ve used in your post is clear, representative of your brand and message, any links are working and the caption is free of errors. If it’s not quite right, now is your time to change it.

Select your payment method

If you haven’t already got payment information saved to your account, the option to add payment is available.

Boost

That’s it! Your facebook boost post is ready and rolling. Facebook reviews all boosted posts so it may not be published immediately.
